Changes to Traffic

There will be a number of short-term road closures over the construction period, with the majority being early in the morning or late at night to minimise public disturbance. Road closures have been designed to reduce the impact of construction by reopening roads to traffic as quickly as possible.

Bus stops affected by construction will be clearly marked to show alternate stops and routes.

The speed limit will be reduced to 50km/h throughout the race precinct for the installation of track infrastructure from 13 September to 13 November. Further reductions to 40km/h will occur in some construction areas for the safety of both public and construction personnel.

Wednesday 29 September - Surfers Paradise

On Wednesday 29 September the northbound lanes of Surfers Paradise Boulevard will be closed from Ocean Avenue Northbound.

Anyone wishing to travel northbound should use the Gold Coast Highway or The Esplanade.

Sunday 17 October - Ferny Avenue (Gold Coast Highway)

On Sunday 17 October a bus lane will be installed from Monaco Street to the Marriott Hotel.

Wednesday 20 October to Monday 25 October

Southbound lanes of the Gold Coast Highway will be closed from Tedder Avenue to Ferny Avenue, with traffic diverted onto the northbound lanes at Tedder Avenue.  This means this section of the Gold Coast Highway will operate as a two-way system, alongside an emergency lane.

Changed traffic conditions will be in place on The Esplanade northbound at Staghorn Avenue, and Surfers Paradise Boulevard at Cypress Avenue with access north to Staghorn Avenue limited to local traffic only. Please refer to the enclosed map for details.

Parking control signs will be enforced in Ocean Avenue and Pacific Street. In all other affected areas parking control will be enforced from Friday 22 to Monday 25 October.

Cronin Avenue and Aloha Lane, Main Beach will be changed to one-way traffic flow eastbound.  Breaker Street will be changed to one-way traffic flow westbound.

Traffic within the track precinct will switch to one-way travelling in an anti-clockwise direction, with speed reduced to 40km/h and enforced by Queensland Police.

Due to the changes to traffic arrangements during this period, lengthy delays can be expected. It is advisable to use alternative routes, or take public transport to the event.
