NOISEWORKS
Take me back … to the early 80's when fate caused 5 young musicians paths to cross and they form a band called The Change. They were Jon "Rangi" Stevens, Stuart "Chet" Fraser, Steve "Vern" Balbi, Justin "Stan" Stanley and Kevin "Buck" Nicol. They quickly found a manager in Michael Browning who's credit was taking an unknown AC/DC from local to international and worldwide status. They began gigging incessantly, changed their name to NOISEWORKS and rapidly found a legion of devoted fans. News travelled faster than they could keep up with and soon they were meeting with Sony and signing their first record deal.
Their '86 debut single "No Lies" resulted with a charting hit in less than one day. This was followed by further success with their '87 debut self titled album and they were instantly embraced by audiences Australia wide. With 4 more hit singles, "Take Me Back", "Burning Feeling", "Love Somebody" and "Welcome to the World", the album scored double platinum and remained in the charts for 60 weeks.
Their second album "Touch", released in November'88, went to #3 on the charts and scored them another platinum album. Their third and final album, "Love Versus Money", released in '91 this time went multi platinum and peaked at #1 whilst on a national sellout tour.
Having toured with the likes of Jimmy Barnes, Johnny Diesel & the Injectors, The Pretenders, Bon Jovi to name a few for nearly a decade, selling in excess of 1.2 million albums that spawned 15 hit singles, they decided they needed time out, individually keen to persue side projects and most of all, indulge in family time.
Jon Stevens found success playing Judas in Jesus Chris Superstar and forged ahead with a successful solo career, relocating to LA in the mid 90's recording with Slash and Randy Jackson (American Idol judge), to hosting a reality TV show. Justin and Steve formed the hip retro band "The Electric Hippies" showing not only their diverse writing style but cemented them as a creative production team working on many other outside projects. Steve currently has his own studio and band, Universe. Whilst Justin has been based in LA since the mid 90's producing the likes of the latest Doors album with the 3 remaining members, writing and producing film scores for Dreamworks and producing Nikka Costa and Leonardo's Bride albums.? Stuart is a well sought after session/recording guitarist and has been John Farnham's guitarist since Noiseworks demise. Kevin relocated to Canberra and started a successful business in Industrial Design & Sculpture, record producing and mentor to up and coming Canberra acts.
Fast forward to 2003 and the 5 guys decide it's time to reconnect and bring back the magic that was NOISEWORKS. They entered a studio and found writing and playing together a completely natural affair. They instantly knew they wanted and had to take the next step and do some gigs.
